I don't think I'm being unfair when I say Reddit likes J. J. Abrams. Why wouldn't Reddit love him? He's involved in some of the most exciting franchises (Mission Impossible; Star Trek and recently Star Wars). He was also involved in the hit TV show Lost. He's quite charismatic and generally comes across as someone fun to work with when you watch his Q+A on various TV shows.
Putting his likability to one side I honestly don't think he's a great director. He makes a lot of clumsy mistakes. Which pains me because he's involved in two of my favourite franchises (hint, see username).
This post isn't just a butt hurt Star Trek/Wars fan venting - I genuinely feel he should stay away from directing, and stick to what he excels at - writing and producing:
-
Armageddon (1998) was a great summer hit and, whilst it didn't set the world on fire (!) people still talk about it. J. J. Abrams was the writer on this movie.
-
Cloverfield (2008) was a fantastic movie in which J. J. Abrams was the producer. It even has a cult following and people are genuinely looking forward to a sequel/prequel.
I feel J. J. Abrams is riding on the success of his hit TV show Lost, which he was one of the directors. But please take into consideration he only directed two episodes of Lost!
J. J. Abrams needs to stay away from directing.
