Sorry if this has been answered already. Family was watching Die Hard today (naturally), and later singing Christmas carols. Then it occurred to me: is Hans Gruber's name a reference to Franz Gruber, who composed Silent Night? I mean it is a Christmas movie after all. I looked up info on the book and found that the character's name was originally Gruber but not Hans. So that was a deliberate change made for the movie. Can't find any further info from Wikipedia or IMDB. Is it some kind of symbolism, like it's up to John McClane to make the night "silent"...?
