This is something that’s always bothered me. I realize they didn’t have PG-13 at the time, and “kids could handle it back then”, but seriously what the fuck? Even the edit they had to make to receive a PG was bullshit: when the Belloq’s face explodes at the end, they had to add in a filter of flames to “obscure” it. I get it that it was more laid back in the past, but c’mon, that bar shootout was like a Scorsese movie lol. Was it basically too big of a movie and Paramount ‘made sure’ it got a PG rating? Only other PG movie I can think of that’s more puzzling is Brian de Palma’s Mission to Mars (1999), that movie fucked me up as a kid, really don’t know wtf happened with that rating
edit: also Poltergeist. maybe an even bigger wtf moment. a dude peels his own face off in it
