The pre-Internet technology in the movie really sticks out. First typewriters are all over the place. Luckily they are electric! Robert Redford needs to find a guy and first he asked his secretary to search for him then he goes down to the basement and starts searching through all of the hundreds of telephone books that are stacked up in bookcases on the wall. Of course there is dial phones. Not a cell phone to be seen. They go to the library of Congress to see what books were checked out by the White House, and they’re given thousands of white cards to search through. And not related to communication, but Dustin Hoffman smokes everywhere. In elevators. In interviewees homes. In restaurants. It really is a showcase of pre-Internet communication.
