The Passion of the Christ (2004): thoughts, opinions and feelings (serious)

i was once really religious but, decided to disconnect religion from my life years ago however, me and my mum always spoke about this movie but, neither of us had fully watched due to it being in your face violent but yesterday i watched it and am proud to say i enjoyed the film and experience it gave during and after watching it. i can't help but, feel that people, particularly in Hollywood and of high film status, ignored this movie on every respective level just because they could not bare the graphic depiction of a horrific story that is heavily religious. i think this movie was ignored for a lot of reasons (it's directed by Mel Gibson, casts non-Hollywood actors, non-English speaking film, etc.) but, i'm more disappointed in the critics for not recognizing the outstanding performances, costumes, MAKE-UP, directing, story, use of symbolism and the efforts they went through to make a realistic religious film. i feel people ignore this film because it is religious not because it is insanely violent and graphic; they're uncomfortable because they know this story and watching the film is confronting, but, they should not feel this film is trying to persuade them to become a christian, it's simply a showcase of the bible story that emphasizes heavily on the torture; people who complain about that are delusional because that's what the story is about/what happened. the film in general deserves so much more commend for it's technique and creativity relating to a story of nostalgia- especially the depiction of the devil was an excellent and impacting showcase that is relative but, equally as frightening. i think people mistaken this movie being 'for religious people' but, you do not need to be religious or even christian to appreciate this film and understand it's mastery.
