Thor Ragnarok Characterization

While I acknowledge that the masses enjoyed Thors characterization in Ragnarok, I personally thought it was a little drastic from what was established in previous films. Personally, I think theres a difference between gradual character development and doing a complete 180 on the character, which, in my opinion, is what they did to Thor. In comparision, instances like Tony and Steves character dveelopments feel far more natural because throughout the movies, were able to tangibly observe events that produce consequences and change their ideologies in some ways. For example, Tonys grief over creating Ultron and Steves distrust of institutions after Winter Soldier. Thors MASSIVE change in character seemed to be more a result of directorial style than anything that happened in-universe. Tbh, I dont mind Thor loosening up and joking ON OCCASION. However, having him constantly quipping/snarking and having him as an asguardian deadpool of sorts strips him of some of his unique characterization imo; especially since he joins a legion of snarkers in the MCU (Stark, Quill, Strange, Rocket, Lang) where he was once the straight man. Looking back at the party scene in AoU where he was like "Your Not Worthy" I think was a great characterization for him, as it showed him being a little cheeky/fun while at the same time maintaining his regality and other established traits, and wouldve been a good path moving forward imo.
