I'm watching an old VHS tape and there are 3 or 4 references to getting cancer from cigarettes. I looked up Kilmer on the internet and he seems to be at least an occasional smoker and acccording to Michael Douglas, Val has throat cancer. If you have a copy of this movie at home or if it's available for streaming, give it a look and see what you think. The whole movie has so much Native American spiritual imagery that it makes it almost seem like the movie or something Val may have done during the filming of the movie planted a seed that over decades grew into throat cancer.
