What are the best sequels of all time?

/r/movies, what in your opinion is/are the best sequel(s) of all time?

My pick is as follows.

Aliens is one of the best sequels of all time in my humble opinion, right up there with Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It has all the essential elements of a timeless sequel:

  • Expands on - and arguably surpasses - the scope of the original. This is the biggest common point I see between it and Terminator 2.

  • A very subtle chemistry between Biehn and Weaver which makes their characters stand out to me all the more for it. It wasn't shoved in our faces and it didn't detract undue focus from the point of the film itself. It makes me wish Biehn had returned for a third film but alas, that possibility never came to fruition and he was killed off between the second and third film..

  • It stands the test of time and will doubtless continue to do so. You can't say that about many of science fiction-themed films of its time. The immersion isn't lost on me even though I was born a decade after its release.

  • It's written well and acted well, with so many iconic lines of dialogue and iconic moments.. like "Game over, man! Game over!" (RIP Bill Paxton). And "Get away from her, you BITCH!" Or Newt's adorably ominous "They mostly come at night.. Mostly."

(My post submissions here usually get deleted because they're too short so I tried to add some volume of words to the text of the OP. I hope that's sufficiently long and structured!)
