I'm thinking of characters, that get too much attention and too little resolution early on before disappearing, to make you at least suspect they'll reappear in the finale as part of some reveal.
For example the doctor in Blade Runner 2049.
This happens a lot in murder mysteries with the killer but I would be interested in other examples too.
