Viral Post

With rising filmmakers such as Cary Fukunaga, Tye Sheridan, Jeremy Saulnier, and S. Craig Zahler, are we seeing a new film movement forming?

What I’m talking about is this trend in recent years of very realistic, violent thrillers. That sounds like a broad term but the people who’ve seen these director’s films will know what feel I’m talking about. Movies like:

Green Room

Blue Ruin

Bone Tomahawk

Wind River

Brawl in Cell Block 99

True Detective (tv series)

Sicario

Prisoners

Comment and let us know about more recent films like this, or directors who fit what I’m talking about.

Their films have an original feel to them and are always made with great attention to small details, and they’re marked with moments of violence that are over the top but not exploitative. These director’s movies are always well received by both audiences and critics. With Saulnier directing the new season of True Detective, thatll only add to the popularity and spread of this style. I hear film movements named things like “New French Extremity”, what should these type of violent thrillers be called?
