I watched it after RLM's high praise for it, and I have to say I don't think I understand it enough to have an opinion on it. There was a part where I felt emotionally moved towards the end, but I think the movie just didn't resonate enough with me or I just didn't understand it enough.
The part where the guy is talking about philosophy didn't really resonate with me. It just sounded like general philosophy, specifically nihilism. It's pretty obvious to me the director made the movie about nihilism, especially with one of the books on the shelf that fell down being about Nietzsche. But I don't particularly care for the idea of nihilism, or maybe I just haven't thought about it enough.
I didn't get the ending at first. I looked up what the ending was supposed to be, and it was just him getting closure and he can move on (just like the other ghost) which makes perfect sense, but it didn't exactly satisfy me. I still don't know what the door opening was for when he took the note out though.
Is there something I'm missing about this movie? Like, I understand that it's fine to not like a movie that much, but I thought it was really close to being amazing if it just resonated with me with its messages. With Mulholland Drive I didn't get it at all after watching it, but when my friend explained it to me it stuck with me for quite a while.
