Hear me out. Everyone thought The Lego Movie would be a glorified 2-hour toy commercial. Flash forward to February 2014, and it turned out to be not only good, but one of the most creative, refreshing and funniest movies of the year. People thought 'damn! How did such a bad idea make for such a good movie?"
Similarly, a lot of people had a similair reaction to the announcement of Blade Runner 2049: "a 40 year old sequel to a stone-cold classic?? That's completely unnecessary! No one asked for this movie. It could potentially ruin the open-ended nature of the last one, too!" Fast forward to 2017, and I think most of us can agree it was a great movie.
It's odd seeing people use the "this movie is completely unnecessary! No one asked for this movie!" Argument against the Han Solo movie. I don't see why you can't make a great movie out of a bad idea guaranteed you have good writing, good acting, good direction etc. I'm not saying the Han Solo movie will definitely by good - hell, this isn't even about just Han Solo - I just find it odd that people are still using this argument when it's been proved wrong time and again.
