I don't know how long trailers have been doing this but I've noticed it happening a LOT recently: A trailer will have a song from the movie playing over it, and it's a song that's used in the movie probably during the climax or some incredibly important moment.
Examples (potential spoilers):
Call Me By Your Name: One of the songs by Sufjan is used (as well as one of the score pieces).
Fantastic Women (actual spoilers): The song used in the trailer is literally the song used at the end when she gives her big beautiful climactic singing performance.
Maudie: The song in the trailer is used in the end and goes into the credits.
Compared to the new Star Wars movies, which feature a leitmotif in the trailer but that actual PIECE doesn't appear in the movie. That's just an example.
For some reason this really bothers me, I feel like it kinda takes you away from the movie because when the song pops up in the movie itself you think "oh yeah this was in the trailer!" I find it oddly obnoxious. Am I being nitpicky? I really just can't help but feel that a trailer should have a song over it that ISN'T one from the movie itself. I feel like it spoils the experience a little. But I guess that's what trailers do anyway hahaha.
Thoughts?
