How hard is it to do another theatrical run of The Lord of the Rings trilogy? It seems that the top three movies, arguably, of all time have gotten their second showing in theaters for the new generation except for LOTR. I promise you if AMC was to give a weekend to the LOTR Extended editions in Dolby, they would sell out. Just recently I remember that Titanic was re-released in Dolby and most of the prime seats around me were sold out and that was more than just the weekend. I want my son to experience the wonder I did as a kid. I want him to feel the grandness of this epic on the big screen, and since this is the future, he gets the extended edition. Of the 3 movies ever to have tied for most the Oscar wins it seems only the LOTRs has been neglected. Sure, LOTR got a "prequel," but that doesn't count, it's not the same story told to our future. The LOTR is a cultural, creative and human achievement, this should be a required viewing for every generation, but that's just how I feel.
