Most bizarre film

Sometime between 2013-2014, there was a bizarre foreign film on Netflix. I'm not sure if the film was Swedish, but the protagonist was a white, mid-20's male. He discovers a crack in his apartment wall that he starts chipping at. He goes at it hard gradually over time, even drilling at one point. Eventually the crack becomes a tunnel, that he covers the opening to with I believe a framed picture/painting (yes like Shawshank Redemption). What makes this film so bizarre is it seemed like the protagonist's whole reality was working against him. I forgot what instigated it, but authority figures comes to his apartment just as he is about to break through to the other side of the tunnel. He only gets his hand through and is feeling around, and we are shown the other side. The other side is a wooden home, very surreal and bright looking, almost as if it were another reality. In stark contrast to his reality; not cold, but dull and lifeless. The authority figures cover the tunnel and then leave to start to plan how he will forgot about the whole tunnel and other side. They give him a promotion at work, and make a female coworker fake romantic interest in him. I forgot much of what happens after this, but I remember we don't get much closure. He never tries to go to the other side again, and I remember trying to research the movie after online and there was nothing at all on it. Does anyone know this film I am talking about?
