I mean, those actors too were human beings, just living in a different time.
There are good and bad actors in every era. The bad actors from the past have been forgotten and the good actors have been given God status. You are not going to see great acting in today's commercial movies. But even today there are movies with great performances and I think today's good actors do just as fine job as the actors from the past. They all are actors just from different times. The best thing an actor can do is giving a great performance. So, if a modern actor gives a great performance, then that performance CAN be compared to the performance in old movies. It's wrong to say that old actors are on a whole different level.
