Just watched The Shawshank Redemption for the first time, I’m only 19 so don’t shun me. I’ve always meant to watch it because I know it’s so highly regarded but I never got around to it until tonight when my girlfriend recommended it. I’m blown away. This film is so gritty, uplifting, heart warming, and fierce. The way the film portrays everyone’s relationship with each other is brilliant, it makes you feel like you’re a part of the gang and the events that go on between them just gives you that wholesome attachment. I also love those completely unexpected in-your-face murder, suicide, and physical discipline scenes, and how they were able to implement those while still maintaining the tone of a hopeful and buoyant nature. The thought that went into Andy’s plan with the fake identity and stealing the money, while also exposing the facility just blew me away. And you can never beat Morgan Freeman narrating a movie with his constant philosophical insight in that soothing, resonate voice. The turn of events at the end regarding Andy and the Warden was insane. I can’t believe it took me this long to watch it... I’ve never actually sat through all the credits of a movie before, but after this one I literally just stared at the screen sobbing for a good 3-4 minutes. Red and Andy are so fuckin cute.
