In the past, there used to be many movies that were remembered for years if not decades whether or not they had a sequel and these movies sometimes get referenced even now.
But nowadays it seems like, unless your movie is part of a franchise or your movie sells a lot of merchandise, your movie will be forgotten really, really quickly. There are a few exceptions (Get Out is still being talked about for example) but, for the most part, it seems like that unless you're part of a franchise, no one will care about your movie a few months from now.
This begs the question, are movies just fads now? What do you think?
