Every one of those scams is super transparently a scam, so only extremely un-computer-savvy people ever fall for them because they basically boil down to having you open up your Task Manager or something and telling you that all the completely normal processes running there are, in fact, evidence of a horrible virus. Imagine how much better they'd work if somebody who actually knew about computers and could more convincingly bullshit being a tech support professional was on the other end of the line?
