I'm not sure if I should be wearing glasses when working/studying on my laptop if I'm near sighted (I have trouble seeing text from far away). I've been doing it for years now because even though the screen is a little bit more than 60cm (almost 24 inches I think) away from my face when I take my glasses off I have trouble reading text on the screen. However I suspect it may have been a factor in my prescription getting stronger, since I spend a good chunk of the day on my laptop working or studying.
I first got glasses in 2008, then my prescription got stronger around 2011, and then it got stronger again around 2016. At this point, I compare my vision with and without glasses as "SD" (normal) and "HD" (with glasses). I can easily get by without them, it's not like I'm bumping into things, but with my glasses I start noticing so many more details than without them. The only situations that give me trouble without my glasses are: driving (legally need them to drive), reading text 60cm away or farther (about the distance between my laptop screen and eyes), watching screens in general, and recognizing people by face from far away.
The issue with faces popped up a few years ago, and really wasn't an issue when I first got glasses. Likewise I think I was still able to use computer screens without glasses at first, but my posture got worse and worse as I had to lean forwards more and more. That's partly why I started using glasses since I could sit farther back and upright while still being to read what was on the screen. Watching movies and video games on TV was ok at first too, but one day I played with my glasses and noticed I was a lot better (I was able to see more details). Now it depends on the game I'm playing (for shooters I need them or else I won't see too many people from far off, but for a game like Smash bros I'm alright). The increasing dependence on my glasses has caused me some concern that my laptop usage is behind it. Or is this normal with near sighted people?
Should I just get contacts at this point if my vision is just all around better with glasses than without them, even if I only technically need them to see far away? I'll probably be working this summer, so I'll probably be out of the house a lot more, and in that case I'd rather wear contacts. The days I'm mostly at home I'll probably just keep the glasses on.
TLDR - I've always had trouble seeing far away but using my glasses to see my laptop better makes it seem like "far away" is closer and closer. Is that normal? Should I just wear contacts at this point? Anyone else go through something similar?
