By twin movies, I mean 2 movies of a very similar theme or focal point released within a year. For example:
Christopher Robin movies -Goodbye Christopher Robin in (2017) -Disney's Christopher Robin (2018)
Wonder Woman themed movies -Wonder Woman (2017) -Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman (2017)
Hercules movies -Hercules (2014) -The Legend of Hercules (2014)
Winston Churchill movies -Darkest Hour (2017) -Churchill (2017)
Christmas with the parents movies -A Bad Moms Christmas (2017) -Daddy's Home 2 (2017)
I know this has been happening for decades (Dante's Peak and Volcano, Deep Impact and Armageddon, A Bugs Life and Antz, etc...) but it's seems to be resurfacing in popularity. The whole concept of 2 of the same kind of movie has got me thinking about the future of movie promotion and advertising though.
I don't think it's too much of a stretch to predict that in the future, we might be getting different versions of the same movie from different studios. We're sort of seeing it already, especially with the superhero genre (Batman V Superman and Captian America: Civil War being prime examples). Imagine if studios took advantage of the fact that moviegoers love to pick sides and release movies in competition with each other. Like I get that copyright and the law are things that need to be considered, but could you imagine if we got 2 James Bond movies from Sony and MGM in the same month, and the bulk of the advertising was bashing the other studios movie? It's merely a hypothetical, but I think it would be incredibly effective, not to mention completely revolutionize the film industry. All things considered, could this realistically work? And what kind of affect, positive or negative, would it have?
