Brassed Off (1996) deserves a watch.

In a one man protest against the large Hollywood studios churning out unnecessary sequels or inferior remakes of already good films, I've started exploring the underworld of lesser known British-made films. My last watch was this film (obligatory IMDB link). I did watch it a number of years back when I was in the music scene, but was too young to appreciate the rest of the film. I'm by no means a film buff, but with relatives having worked in the mining industry whilst they were being closed down, it really hit home for me as it explored the cultural, social and economic struggles at the time in a very respectful way. In my opinion, some of the scenes do go on a bit longer than they really need to, but all in all, if you're in to this sort of thing, I'd really recommend it.
