Finally saw Get Out and love both endings

I’ve ducked my head when it came to this movie for way too long, waiting to finally watch it. Knew nothing going in and it was fantastic.

When we started the movie, there was an option between the original and the alternate ending versions. I got a little knot in my stomach because I hate alternate endings. It leave and ambiguity that is uncalled for and rarely leaves anything worthwhile.

However I loved both.

The original ending was great. The entire movie was delivered tongue in cheek, from the dark humor, to the racial undertones, to the TSA buddy, Rod. It was so fitting to have the movie end with Rod, arguably the most tongue in cheek character in the entire movie, finally showing up using his TSA skills to find and save Chris. Fantastic.

I had no desire to watch the alternate ending. I didn’t want my initial viewing and the canon ending to be tread upon in any way. However my wife wanted to watch it so I gave in and we watched it on YouTube.

The alternate ending may have even been better than the original. Chris had no desire to recall the names of everyone involved to bring about his potential freedom after being left behind bars. This was a brilliant move by Jordan Peele. Chris’ girlfriend’s father, when Chris realized he was not going to “get out,” asked him what his purpose was as he gazed into the fire. He spoke of how all men die and the allegory of fire was fitting. We hope to burn bright, leaving a genuine impact on the world before we die, but rarely do fires impact the greater population. Fires are used to cook, to comfort with warmth, and to burn. His question about purpose was the backbone of the alternate ending. Chris said that he stopped them. Stopped them from harming any more people. Stopped them from ruining lives. The entire Armitage family was using people as surrogates for themselves so that they may live forever. And he stopped them. He fulfilled his purpose. There was no reason to seek the freedom he deserved because his fire, his purpose, brought an end to future wrongings done by the Armitage family. Pure stroke of brilliance.

Sorry if this has been posted before. As I said, I had my head in the ground any time this movie was brought up. I love it and love both endings.

Also, hiding the scars on the heads of Georgina and Andre was very compelling.

Those are my thoughts from watching the movie. I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did.
