3 years ago we were living in a hotel room with our three kids because we moved from Oklahoma to Spokane and we were trying to find a place. We found a post on Facebook on a rental group I am apart of. She said he could help and gave me his name and phone number. We called him and he was a really nice guy. He said the house wasn't ready. There was a room that had graffiti on it, the banaster was broken, dishwasher was broken, plumbing leaked, stains on the carpet, holes in doors from previous tenants pets, windows weren't put in correctly, stove was disgusting, trash under the stairs and under cabinets. He said he would return to fix things. He knocked a bit off the rent due to the condition. He never got around to fixing very much before he was fired. So as soon as we knew we had a new property manager we told him everything that was wrong with the house. So that he knew we needed things done. He would say Everytime I have all these other things but we will get around to taking care of it. He never did. Everytime I would call the new property manager he would get irate with me and demand I put my husband on the phone so he could talk to him instead. My husband had never spoken to him for there to be a preference. He would refuse to speak to me because I am a female. They also raised out rent twice in 6 months. We moved out of course. So now he is suing us over damages that were already there and documented. We are hoping to find the video that was taken before any of our things where moved into the house. He has only written a letter to my grandmother threatening to sue her for the damages and never contacted us about it. What do we do? We have considered contacting the local news. Is there any other organizations that can help us, free legal representation or advice? Please any info will help.
