Ranking All the Alien Movies

I'm just interested where Reddit stands with the Alien franchise. I'm not going to include the AvP movies as I'm not really sure they're true canon. My ranking would go:

  1. Aliens - James Cameron knows how to make a sequel. Not only did this movie up the ante in action and scares, it added a ton of new lore to the Alien franchise.

  2. Alien - The one that started it all. This is without a doubt one of the greatest horror films of all time. As a side note, for anyone who hasn't played it, the videogame Alien Isolation really succeeds in recreating the atmosphere of the original Alien movie and is utterly terrifying (plus you play as Ripley's daughter!).

  3. Prometheus - This film gets a lot of hate. Yes there are a ton of plotholes and the characters make so many stupid decisions (just roll to the right so you don't get flattened by the giant ass spaceship!), but damn as a fan of the franchise this movie is so fun. The ceserean scene alone is one of the most horrifying scenes in the whole franchise. Prometheus also expands the lore of the franchise immensely, almost too much as you have so many questions by the end. I know not everyone's a huge fan of the Engineers, but I think their story is absolutely fascinating.

  4. Alien 3 - I think everyone can admit this was kind of a disappoinment of a film. With Fincher directing and Sigourney Weaver reprising her role as Ripley, it should be an instant hit. But from the immediate killing off of Newt and Hicks to the lack of expansion of lore in the series, this film just really killed the franchise. Of course Resurrection would later ensure it was thoroughly dead, but man if it had followed the comics Alien 3 could've been epic.

  5. Alien Covenant - I've honestly only watched this once so I can't remember too many details, but I know I initially really enjoyed it. But the more and more I thought of the movie the more I realized it barely even featured the xenomorph. Don't get me wrong, David's an interesting character and Fassbender is awesome to watch, but it's all just too philosophical. I want to see humans fight for survival against these extremely deadly creatures. Anyway, it's just going in a different direction than I wanted.

  6. Alien Resurrection - Honestly, it's not as bad as it could be, but damn it's still bad. There are some pretty badass scenes (that basketball shot was fucking great!) and it's kind of fun to watch Ripley be a stone cold killer, but overall there's really not much else to praise about the film.

Sorry if these points weren't all coherent. I'm tired. Anyway, what does everyone else think?
