I've been seen some discussion lately saying that since ALIEN was closer to pure-horror and ALIENS was closer to pure-action, that the films shouldn't be compared against one another. While I understand that mindset, and understand that James Cameron took something that Ridley Scott crafted and veered in another direction...I'm just not sure I can get behind that mentality.
I view them as two tonally different chapters of a much larger story; if it were a novel we'd be comparing the opening chapter to something later in the book. Films are allowed to change genres if they so choose, but that doesn't mean comparing them is off the table, especially when they share the same core characters and plot elements.
Agree/Disagree? I'd love to see discussion for both sides of the argument.
