So apparently the virus that nearly wiped out the humans isn't as deadly anymore in terms of just killing people outright. Instead, it's evolved to disabling their speech. Now, the colonel said that if humans could not speak, they'd simply be savages and what they once were (like cavemen). But, he does realize there's things like sign language, right? I mean the virus doesn't seem too deadly. Other than a bad nosebleed, they seem to be ok. So what's the big deal?
I get that it could probably be scary at first, knowing you've lost one of your most basic functions. But you're still alive and you can still do everything else, so why worry? There's sign language, text-to-speech, handwriting, any number of things.
All in all, great movie. One of my favs of the year so far
