Just that really: What plot devices in old movies wouldn't work in the 21st century?
E.g. Home Alone: they’d never have got through security on time. They’d all have missed the flight anyway. Problem solved.
Even if they had made it to Paris, they'd probably have just blasted the police on social media for apparently not caring that their son is missing or putting any effort into finding him, and it would soon have gone viral.
