It's a criticism I've seen lobbied at the likes of Crash, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, etc., having too much going on and not being able to balance everything properly. But it can be done well! So what are your examples?
I'd like to encourage you to stick to self-contained movies. Sure, The Lord of the Rings trilogy manages to have a wide array of characters and events, but they're developed over the course of three movies.
