So, me and my family were cleaning out a closet and found a box of VHS tapes, one of which was The Abyss. I asked my dad about it, and he said it was cool and that it freaks my mom out. This gave me an image of a scary movie on the bottom of the ocean, so I was disappointed when we watched it. This is what I would’ve changed
The scene when Bud and Lindsey are in the sub filling with water with one suit, why would he wait for her to die, then swim her back and try to save her. Either wait for her to die, then she dies, or immediately start swimming back so you have a better chance of her making it. I would have done the first one because her drowning was a really emotional, good scene
I would have cut the alien all together. I know this completely changes the movie, but the alien was just weird and I was very bored when it was on screen. I would have just had them looking for an actual Russian sub (or whatever they thought the alien was) and still have Lt. Coffey go crazy and that would be the story, them trying to survive the crazy guy.
Bud would’ve died at the end. Him miraculously being saved by the dumb alien was already stupid, but it was even worse since he had miraculously saved Lindsey earlier by punching her in the chest and screaming. It made it feel like there weren’t any stakes.
So to recap, everyone who dies actually dies, no alien, be a scary movie with crazy Coffey as the “villain” character. For anyone who has seen this film, thoughts? (Keep in mind that I had a totally different perception of what this film was about, so I found it disappointing. If this is like your favorite movie or something, sorry for ripping on it) If you haven’t seen this film, you should watch it because it’s actually pretty good
