Mods are taking removing posts too far.
The upvote and downvote system exists.
I've had plenty of posts before get downvoted and not survive.
Yet recently my posts and other posts that have made it to the front of r/movies have been removed, some with as many as a thousand comments. We didn't always agree but we had a good lively debate and some were converted on one side and others the other side yet they were removed before the debate had more time to develop like Spider-Man disappearing before his time.
The one thing the posts had in common? Criticizing a franchise. Whether it be the Star Wars sequels, Jurassic World 2, Infinity War, etc.
So all the "civil" posts stay on the front page and the "uncivil" posts are removed.
This creates boring vanilla conformity which coincidentally is also similar to what it's like watching these movies: cookie cutter, factory-line. What's worse is there are flaws in the assembled product but the posts pointing them out are "removed" because...well there's never an explanation but when you look at what the posts have in common, it's not a stretch to fill in the gap ourselves.
So we get more of these safe movies but if the dropoffs for Solo and Jurassic World are any indication, people aren't as dumb or as easily manipulated no matter what the "majority" opinion is. We feel the way we feel whether it's on here or any number of other forums.
Removing posts is futile and it is in direct contrast with what movies represent: a step away from the status quo and it must stop or this sub should just be renamed r/moviescirclejerk
