My original post about watching these.
Really, Fast and Furious? This is the best plot you could come up with after Paul Walker's exit? Dom is forcibly recruited to the bad side of things and the rest of the team, including Jason Statham, have to stop/catch him?
I'm not looking for Shakespeare, but this is clearly a script idea that took less than 30 minutes to come up with. I found the entire premise totally lame, and I'm talking lame for a Fast and Furious movie.
Anyway, it is a well made movie despite its terrible premise, but I don't feel the movie ever gets going and is forced throughout. Charlize Theron has nothing to work with and is just in the “bad guy who controls everything remotely” role. Very lame.
I did enjoy the final sequence on the ice/snow and F&F has kind of turned into a reliable series for delivery big action scenes. Nicely done.
Vin Diesel looks bored in this movie and the rumors are that he and Dwayne Johnson did not get along. I'd honestly take the series from Diesel at this point and let Johnson have the lead role. Vin Diesel is done trying, I think. He just shows up late and looks serious. I think he should have exited once Paul Walker died; it's almost like it is too painful for him to continue without his original co-lead.
Final Thoughts on the series: Well, the general consensus was pretty spot on for these movies. The first three were pretty lame, but it picked up in the fourth and fifth one. 4-8 are better made movies and it is pretty rare for a series to make its 7th movie its best one, which this one managed to do.
If anyone asked me, I'd really recommend just skipping to the fourth movie. Yes, it's a sequel, but only barely. I don't think anything can be gained from the first three movies other than a few neat things.
There is some good stuff in the later half of the movies, though. Better than I expected, in some ways.
My final rankings:
- Furious 7
- Fast Five
- Fate of the Furious (#8)
- Fast & Furious 6
- Fast & Furious (#4)
- Fast 2 Furious
- Tokyo Drift
- The Fast and the Furious
