It seems like every film franchise, especially the longer they drag on, invariably invite mediocrity. Has there ever been a film franchise where you know that no matter which film you watch, you were going to get something good?
I was thinking the Indiana Jones franchise could have been an example, but it is marred by the unnecessary 4th film. Star Wars has the prequels. The Tolkien franchise has the overlong Hobbit trilogy dragging it down.
Toy Story maybe, but with the 4th film looming, who knows what is going to happen to it?
Can anyone think of any others?
