Wow. What a movie. If you think this will be some hero-worship, sappy movie, you’re wrong. It spends so much time developing the characters that the big fire set pieces are on the back burner (no pun intended). It’s emotionally devastating because by the end, you really care about the characters. Miles Teller did a wonderful job at portraying his character’s arc. It does a really good job showing that deadbeat drug addicts can change, in a realistic way. I don’t really understand how this wasn’t recognized by the Oscars, the cinematography was amazing on top of the performances. The movie doesn’t play it safe. The friendship between all the characters felt really organic, especially Taylor Kitsch and Miles Teller. I could go on and on about this movie, I’ve watched it a few times in the past week, it’s extremely good. I think Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, and Josh Brolin all would’ve been deserving of an oscar nom. I know that’s an overused phrase, but you just have to watch it to see what I mean.
