I remember watching this odd animated film as a kid, and I watched it a lot, although the details are a bit fuzzy at this point. Here is what I remember.
The film had an old style animated feel, but not ancient, more like an indie produced style.
It's story was based in a fictional land where there are two cities, one on top the other. The top being the only one that receives natural daylight and where nobility lives in their large columned palaces. Below lives everyone else.
The plot revolves around a kid (The Protagonist) and I believe the King (The Antagonist). What happens throughout the movie I have almost no idea, but there are also large "Talking?" birds who help the protagonist.
The King tries to catch the kid I think? But fails, so he goes into the basement of his palace, located in the darker city, and reveals that he has a GIANT Robot, and I mean HUGE. He tries to kill the boy and destroys the upper city while doing so. In the end the kid, along with the birds, defeat the Giant and the king who is controlling it, and frees the trapped poor people below unto the over-world. They sail away onto a nearby island where they settle down, the movie ends on a shot of the Giants disembodied head...
Please help me find this movie, I couldn't find it myself because Google insists upon thrusting "The Iron Giant" at me.
