the other night, my boyfriend texted me in one of his depressive states asking for a favor. We were actually in a call so when he texted me, i just verbally responded every time. But the favor was "can you hate me" and it literally stunned me. he deals with depression and is suicidal, he doesn't really have anybody so him being extremely down wasn't surprising but the favor was just so crazy to me. I , of course, went on with asking like "why would I hate you?" "how could I ever hate you" and so on. I began crying because as the conversation kept going, it sounded like he wanted to break up with me. But he told me to stop bc he loved me and would never break up with me so it just makes the favor more confusing to me. the next day when he was feeling alright again, he apologized and told me what was going on internally and I, of course, didn't stress him on it. But I still can't figure out why he'd ask me that.
could someone maybe help me to figure out what he meant by that? thank you :)
