Films that don’t underestimate the audience’s intelligence?

Not sure how to phrase it, but I’m essentially looking for examples of films that don’t underestimate the audience’s intelligence. Perhaps films that show 1 and 1 and assume/give credit that the audience can figure out they add up to 2. An example I can think of is how in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kubrick knows that the audience can figure out that HAL was reading lips (even before being explicitly mentioned). Not sure if my explanation makes sense, but would appreciate any input!
