I remember him not outright confirming it in an interview that if they find some material from the book, then they'll shoot it. He didn't seem that all enthusiastic. And then they dropped a bombshell that it would get delayed even further with him picking Mindhunter and Brad Pitt doing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I'm only on board with this movie if Fincher's directing. Imagine a scary fucking Seven-like intro of the movie with Trent Reznor for a movie like World War Z. With him gone, it would be a huge loss to the film.
