Just finished re-watching this incredible film after not seeing it in over a decade. The suspense created by the cinematography is unreal and the sense of isolation during an alien invasion is executed amazingly well.
Gibson and Phoenix were pitch perfect in their roles, as well as the kids. I love how Shyamalan wove a family tragedy with faith and an alien invasion story; It was a simple yet clever combination of genres.
And that score by James Newton Howard was the icing on the cake. We just don't get movies of this caliber anymore.
