So, to make a long story short, I'm 18, and I pay my adoptive mother basically all the money I make as a part time chef at a local restaurant as rent (she calls it "living expenses," claims to funnel the money back into me as food (she doesn't,) and she'll bite your head off if you call it rent in front of her) to live at home because she's made absolutely sure I have 0 chance to save up enough money to move out, so I've got no choice.
However, she's made it absolute hell to live with her. She still has final say on whether or not I can leave the house at any given point, I still have only 1 hour of "screen time" a day and have to gain permission to play video games if I ever want to (spoiler alert - the answer is ALWAYS no), I'm still not allowed to have friends over or spend the night at a friend's house, I still have to jump through about 15 different hoops in order to gain permission to go hang out with friends no matter where or when or with whom, I still have to run any purchases or other money I spend through her even though it's my money from my working, I still have to do all the housework, and she still constantly threatens to take my property away as a punishment in order to force me into stuff for her.
While I know it is not within her rights to place a lot of those limits on my life, and I also know that there's nothing I can do to stop her beyond pressing charges for vandalism for all of my stuff she's broke (got a whole album of 30 pictures on Google Photos of stuff she's broke when she's thrown hissy fits just in case I absolutely positively have no other choice than to do that to just get her away from me and out of my life), what I'm getting at is that she just actually tried to take my computer, all my CDs, MTG cards and books away, none of which she bought or had anything to do with me getting, and I just had a huge fight with her over whether or not she's legally allowed to do that, and I was wondering if it actually is in her rights to do that.
