Going into the Military in your late 20's as an officer?

Hello all, I am seriously considering going into the military after I finish up my Bachelor's degree. I'll be 27 when I graduate and thats still within the age range of the Air Force requirements to become an officer. I was wondering if this was a good thing to do or not? Have you been on a similar path? What are the potential pros and cons of going into the military later in life? I would be going in as an officer, and the people I've chatted with have done the same thing. They were all in their late 20's and early 30's when they joined the military.

My plan was to become an officer in the Air Force and then work as a researcher (in something with computers and math I haven't decided yet) and then go to work for a defense contractor like Lockheed-Martin or Northrop Grumman. That was my plan, I would like to know if there is anything about this that anyone would see as a problem. I really want to serve my country, and I would like to finish up my education in a really prestigious university at the same time, and I think going into the military as an officer may be the best option, not to mention that housing, transportation, and food would all be covered. Those are usually the 3 biggest expenses in anyone's life.

Might you or anyone have any advice regarding going down this path?

What are the pros and cons?

Is there something that I don't know about all this?

I would greatly appreciate any and all input!
