Hi, I'm really bad at handling stress if I have a sense of urgency that I'll have to act quickly else I might be greeted with a bad outcome.
I like to think that I actually handle stress rather well, if I'm in a stressful situation I tend to stay calm and find what the best course of action is, and I've managed to get through a lot because of it. And even under a short time restraint I do alright, I tend to be pretty good at thinking then acting very quickly.
But my problem is with a longer time constraint, like maybe a couple days to a week or more.
Something about the longer limit causes stress to just build up with no release, and I end up too emotional to actually be productive or find a solution for the situation, which makes me even more upset and emotional.
One thing that's happened recently that highlights this is my father's favourite bird recently escaped his cage and flew away, we have a veranda that we keep the birds under that he flew around in where we tried to coax him into getting back into the cage, where after an hour he found his way out and flew off.
Now the thing about that hour was I dealt with the extreme stress of trying not to let this bird escape perfectly fine, he actually flew up on top of the veranda, and to make sure I could see him I ran up our fence and jumped onto the veranda. To which I was up there trying to lure him to me for about 15 more minutes until he decided to fly off. Now, even though I never really had much of an attachment to that bird, I know my dad did, that bird kept my dad company for 2 years now.
And now we're planning on putting some flyers up as a last ditch kinda thing to find him, and it's stressful for me thinking that we might miss a chance to get him back if we don't put them up sooner than later.
Any help would be appreciated, I want to be able to handle this kind of stress well.
