After I saw the movie I was astounded, I loved everything about the film. One thing I especially enjoyed was the few familiar faces who popped up only briefly, I didn't watch many of the trailers or look into the film much as I wanted to go into it with an open mind. I knew the director and Moonlight was an incredible film so that sold me on the film as is. It was a pleasant surprise to see several of actors I really enjoy (Pedro Pascal, Diego Luna, Ed Skrien, Dave Franco.) However Dave Franco's character stood out to me as being slightly more important than any other. When I brought this up to the people I saw the movie with none of them knew what I was talking.
If you've seen the movie you would know that Dave Franco has a minor role in which he sells the main couple an apartment. When we first meet him, it is made abundantly clear that he is Jewish, we only see the back of his head at first which is emblazoned with a jewish kippah. After they have look at the apartment Alonzo asked Franco's character what the catch is for the apartment, and Franco replies that he just doesn't care that Alonzo and Tish are black. We're all just people and that he (Franco's characters) is his mother's child. The film is set in the 1970's, the Jewish community were still healing from the Holocaust at this time, and Franco's character's mother would have possibly been a Holocaust survivor or at the very least she would have been around during it and could have lost people. He's understanding and not bigoted because his people have experienced similar discrimination.
A lot of people probably understood this but the people I was with didn't so thought I'd post it.
