I've always wondered where this massive amount of ocean water goes once it reaches the sand.
If you take a cup of water and pour it into a bowl with sand in it, the water just travels all the way to the bottom of the bowl and sits there.
So, if waves keep pushing water onto a beach and water is sinking all the way to the bottom of the sand, where does it rest at? Does it sink all the way to the next layer of rock or does the water get sucked out of the sand when the waves recede?
