Are the long takes in 'Before Sunset' mostly green screen?

I watched this (amazing) movie for the first time a few days ago (if you've never seen it, make sure you watch 'Before Sunrise' first!).

During the long dialog scenes I started wondering how much work would it take to coordinate and time all pedestrian traffic and other things that happen in the background. Right out of the bookstore for example, the two protagonist walk and talk for over 10 minutes without a single cut!

And then, things started to look a little weird.

I'm no film expert, and it's possible the director really made magic happen... but some things seem off.

The characters never going in or out of sharp shadows. The speed at which they turn corners, the lack of elevation change when the terrain is not flat... At some point they turn a corner and they seem to magically walk over some posts like they weren't there...

For my own curiosity, I'd like to ask someone that has a better eye and expertise than me... is it possible some of these long takes are actually (very well made) special effects?

Some clarifications and info I found online:

  • Wikipedia links to an article that mentions the longest take is 11 minutes, but it doesn't say that the 11 minute take was actually shot in the streets of Paris. (An 11 minute dialog is still impressive from writing and acting point of view, even if it was shot on a treadmill!)
  • I don't doubt that *some* scenes are actually shot in Paris. I just think these were intelligently interleaved with special effects ones to increase the realism.

What do you think Reddit?
