I'm a university student and study social science. Sorry for a bit naive but I'm really curious to know whether the goals of the society from a smaller to a world scale can be agreeable among humans. I think One of the possible agreeable goals is, assuming that we can accurately quantify individual well-being and ensure optimal fairness, (a) maximizing the total sum of individual well-being (b) while ensuring fairness between individuals, societies and generations. Any comments for this? No social science can answer this simple question so I came here to hear your opinions. I know that not a small number of people try to maximize their own profit at an individual level but this does not mean they cannot agree on the goal of the society. IMO, if they are asked this question and need to answer in a responsible manner as a member of a society, they will be able to reach on the same conclusion.
