Hell or High Water was kind of stupid

Major Spoilers Below

It was good. I've liked Ben Foster since 3:10 to Yuma, and this was one of his best performances. Great characters, great direction. Excellent stuff, really.

Except, you know, the central premise of the movie. They need to pay off the $40,000 mortgage and back taxes so that they can get an oil lease on the land, and our smart and otherwise-good-boy Chris Pine finds himself robbing banks to pay it before they foreclose.

Literally walk into any bank other than the one you owe money to and they will THROW that $40K at you once you show them the lease offer from the oil company. Problem solved, you're in the rich people's club and Jeff Bridges' partner doesn't have to get shot in the head.

Otherwise, cool movie. Taylor Sheridan is great.

EDIT: a word

EDIT: To clarify: Chris Pine's character is not poor at any point during this movie. From the beginning of the movie, Chris Pine's character is worth millions and millions of dollars. He owns a ranch with oil on it, and the oil co's are coming to him with offers. He may be cash-poor, but he's asset-rich and he's gonna be cash-rich once they start drilling. Banks would be lining up to refinance his 40K mortgage debt.

I would believe it if he just wasn't financially literate. But he talked to his lawyer about financial planning and the dude was just like "yeah, rob banks."
