Daniel-Day Lewis stopped acting in 1997, and Leonardo DiCaprio had to go convince him to do Gangs of New York in 2002. Weirdly enough Steven Spielberg said that DiCaprio also convinced him to do Lincoln after he turned Spielberg down already. So if Day-Lewis had stayed retired, and people still wanted to make Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood, Lincoln, and Phantom Thread, who could you see playing those roles?
