One of my favorite things to do is watch movies at a solid [7-9] that will take me down a thematic rabbit hole and spit me out somewhere completely unexpected based on its early narrative. Movies with at least one major plot pivot point are, to me, the best kind to watch high. But lists of films that fit this description are hard to come by and are dominated by "twist endings", like Oldboy, Usual Suspects, or The Sixth Sense. I'm looking more for movies that have full exposition of a new theme, rather than just 3 minutes crammed in at the end explaining how the audience was tricked. Here are a few films that I consider decent examples of what I'm after, and I'm wondering if there are more out there:
- The Prestige
- Gone Girl
- From Dusk Till Dawn
- Cabin in the Woods
- The World's End
- Black Swan
- Overlord
- Sorry To Bother You
- 10 Cloverfield Lane
- Terumae Romae
