Hopefully I’m not the only one who felt this way but I couldn’t help thinking that the somewhat “happy” ending didn’t turn out so happy for David. At the end of the film David returned home seemingly more mature and comforted his heartbroken mother while David’s sister Jennifer realizing her old life back home didn’t have much to offer and stayed in pleasantville to go to college. Cut to after the film ends and the mother asks where Jennifer is and David has to explain they got sucked into a tv program and Jennifer stayed behind to live a better life. He would probably end up either in prison or in a psychiatric hospital. Was Jennifer stuck there forever? What if she suddenly reappears after David is convinced he’s just mentally insane and believes he murdered his own sister? I know it’s just a movie but that always bugged me.
